Selecting Computer Applications Software

IntroductionThis web-site is designed to help those organisations which are seeking to select and implement new computer applications software, for an organisation, whether for commercial, financial, production, or other tasks. It seeks to identify the best applications software, NOT the best equipment, as equipment is now a commodity product and there are many places where you can obtain advice on equipment, including one of our other sub-webs, Selecting Computer Systems. As mentioned elsewhere, please note that the information is copyright to Quercetum Limited. Also please note that all trade takes place in the United Kingdom. For further details please read our Copyright notice in About Us. The general advice, which is included in this site, is free. If you require more specific advice, it is available at a price. We describe the paid services briefly in this site but you will need to contact us to use them. The advice which we can provide falls into the following categories: - a summary of the selection process. If you are undertaking a selection project, there are a series of activities which need to be undertaken, to ensure that you reduce the potential problems. This free guidance note identifies these activities. It is available both as a web page, and as a downloadable document. See Summary; - a guide to the selection process. If you require more detail of the work to be undertaken this free document, which is a little over 30 pages long, tells you what to do at each stage of the selection process, and provides examples. It is provided as a downloadable document, but the individual stages have been extracted into a series of web pages. See Detailed Guide; - Frequently Asked Questions. As we get feedback from users, such as yourself, we will list, for free, the most frequently asked questions, with answers. We may also build up a longer list of questions and answers, for which we may make a small charge. This feature is not yet available, as we have not, yet, had sufficient feedback. When it is, the link will be to Frequently Asked Questions; - checklists of the features which could be included in your Statement of Requirements / Invitation to Tender. These have been developed for a number of industries, and more can be produced fairly quickly, should they be requested. They cost from £15 to £25 each, and include between 400 and 600 items each. For details, see Checklists; - document review. We can review the documents which you produce and suggest improvements, and additional information which could be included. This is charged depending on the level of effort involved. The two 'standard' options cost £250 and £500 each. See Document Review; - advice. If you have specific questions, we can offer advice. This service is charged for. For basic questions, we offer a 'standard' service. We will be happy to assign a consultant to spend up to one hour considering your question and preparing a response, for a fixed fee, usually £50. For a limited period, we have reduced the fee to £30. For more involved questions, we will quote you a price before undertaking the work. To submit your question, mailto:enquiries@quercetum.co.uk; - undertaking parts of the selection work for you. We can undertake some, or all, of the selection process, for you. This is 'bread and butter' work for us. For details, including typical Terms of Reference and Timescales, see Working with You; - pointing you at further information. We are building up a list of other contacts, where you can get further information. This is a free service, currently under development, and will be held in Links; - for any other assistance, which is not identified above, describe the problem in an e-mail, and mailto:enquiries@quercetum.co.uk. We will respond, as quickly as is reasonable, without charging you. If, however, the assistance requires significant effort on our part, we will advise you of any costs involved, and seek your approval before commencing work. We hope that this website is of use. Please let us know of any improvements which you would like to see, by writing to us in the form of an e-mail, and mailto:suggestions@quercetum.co.uk Contact Information
