'How to do it' GuidesThe Guides have been prepared for use by clients, and potential clients, of Quercetum Limited, who wish to undertake the appropriate activity. As most organisations undertake these activities very infrequently, they tend to have very little relevant experience. Accordingly, we have prepared these guides with the assistance of a variety of clients from a broad range of businesses, some of whom have allowed us to extract examples from documents prepared for them. It is hoped that the readers can learn from the collected experience and mistakes and will feel better informed after reading this but, if you have any queries, please feel free to contact us If you wish to obtain copies of any of these documents, go to Downloadable Documents, where all the relevant information is available. Computer Systems Selection If you are seeking to select and install new computer systems for a business, and need to acquire applications software, whether for commercial, financial, production, or other tasks, there are a series of activities which need to be undertaken, to ensure that you reduce the potential problems. This document, based on the author's experience from over 200 systems selections, takes you through the activities which you need to undertake, from specifying the requirements to reviewing the contract and, in certain areas, provides examples. Business Planning / Corporate Strategy Every business should question its strategy every few years to make sure that it still makes sense, and produce a plan setting out how the business should develop over the next year or two. This document takes you through the stages of the process, discusses where a consultant can help you, and includes specimen documents produced at different stages of the process. Achieving ISO 9000 This document formed the basis for around 30 successful projects to achieve ISO 9000 from the late 1980's to the mid 1990's. As the demand for this standard has declined, we have not attempted to keep this document up to date with the latest changes to the standard. The underlying approach is, however, still sound, and the document should prove useful reading for anybody wishing to set up ISO 9000 procedures. Selecting Micro-Computer Systems It is unlikely that anybody will require this guide, as it has been overtaken by the onward rush of the IT world. It was prepared, in the late 1980's / 1990, for internal use in large organisations, which needed to enable manager's to obtain equipment without overloading the IT department. It is an interesting view of life as it was but, if anybody needs a document for a similar task, you are welcome to take this document, update it, and use it, provided you acknowledge our original copyright. We would, of course, be interested to see your version.
